NNS Cybersecurity Intership

Cybersecurity Experience

I had the opportunity to work as a cybersecurity co-op for Newport News Shipbuilding, the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the largest shipbuilding company in the United States. During my co-op, I learned to use various tools and techniques to safeguard the company’s information systems and networks from unauthorized access and disclosure.

Some of the skills that I acquired include
SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), phishing, analyzing cyber incidents as well as reading the NIST policies. I also gained valuable exposure to the shipbuilding industry and the different types of vessels that the company produces, such as submarines and ship carriers. Overall, I learned plenty of information that could potentially help me in advance.

In addition, I did an
on-site training with one of the employees on how phishing works in the shipyard. I learned the usage of Splunk as well as Wireshark. Splunk Also conducts a small training which I finished during the internship.
